Kellyanne Conway Retweeted a White Nationalist
After her contentious interview with Matt Lauer this morning over the resignation of Michael Flynn, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway took to Twitter to thank a white nationalist who complimented her. In the now-deleted tweet, Conway retweeted white nationalist account “Lib Hypocrisy” saying, “Love you back” adding a Happy Valentines Day to her “Hapless Haters”.
The original tweet Conway responded to lauded her ‘performance’ this morning stating, “@KellyannePolls Your strength & resiliency in face of vile hatred, bigotry, & sexism of the unhinged Left is a daily inspiration! Love you!🏅”
Moreover, she uses a frog emoji in her screen name most likely relating to the well-known Pepe the Frog (which relates to the so-called ‘Alt-right’ – an amalgamation of racist, anti-Semitic or other bigoted themes).
Lib Hypocrisy’s profile also makes mention of all-caps “LOVE” for Geert Wilders & Steve Bannon. The former is a extremist, Islamophobic Dutch politician who has targeted mosques in the Netherlands while the latter once proclaimed his former publication – Breitbart – is the hub of the ‘Alt-right.’
All in all, it’s not difficult to ascertain how Lib Hypocrisy feels about national politics – which makes it puzzling that Conway would not only retweet, but offer a warm, friendly tone with such a person as a White House employee.
But she did – until Buzzfeed inquired. She immediately denied publishing the tweet and deleted it thereafter.
Commenting to Buzzfeed, Conway said, “I’ve never heard of Lib Hypocrisy obviously. I denounce whoever it is. I’m going to find out who’s tweeting it. It will be immediately deleted. Everybody makes mistakes.”
What’s worse here: that a high ranking member of the White House (other than Donald Trump) is randomly retweeting white nationalists or that someone unknown to Conway has access to her social media account and is retweeting white nationalists without her knowledge? And if some unknown person does have access to Conway’s account – given her status and visibility in the Trump administration – wouldn’t this pose significant national security questions?
