Tomi Lahren Just Doesn’t Get It – And Probably Never Will

Tomi Lahren

Aiming to be the next Ann Coulter, conservative commentator and professional aggrieved white person Tomi Lahren just doesn’t appear to understand a large portion of what she’s talking about. Or, if she does, she’s clearly hoping her audience doesn’t see her for the conservative emperor with no clothing she really is.

The most recent example of this failure to launch a rational argument occurred the night after the Golden Globes. In a three-minute angry diatribe against Meryl Streep and ‘Hollywood liberals’, Lahren demonstrated she doesn’t fully grasp some of the more complex concepts she claims to have well read opinions on.

In the speech in question, Meryl Streep eloquently called out President Elect Trump for mocking a disabled reporter and enabling the hatred and bullying that’s become an epidemic across the country. She said in part:

There was one performance this year that stunned me. It sank its hooks in my heart. Not because it was good. There was nothing good about it. But it was effective and it did its job. It made its intended audience laugh and show their teeth. It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter, someone he outranked in privilege, power, and the capacity to fight back. It kind of broke my heart when I saw it. I still can’t get it out of my head because it wasn’t in a movie. It was real life.

And this instinct to humiliate, when it’s modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life, because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing. Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence incites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.

Because this speech deeply upset Donald Trump, so too did it upset Tomi Lahren – the media personality who hasn’t seen a cause she couldn’t mangle with white privilege and conservative rage.

“Last night Meryl Streep stood in front of a theater with rich Hollywood liberals and demonstrated just how out of touch Hollywood is with the rest of the country,” she began. “She also validated our reason for voting for Donald Trump and reminded us how important the electoral college really is.”

The casual observer would note that the ‘rest of the country’ comment is diametrically opposed to the ‘electoral college’ comment as the country voted one way while the electoral college voted another. Including all candidates that people voted for who weren’t the GOP candidate, over 54% of the voting nation did not want to elect Donald Trump. That’s not even to speak of the fact that Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by nearly three million more votes than Trump.

“Without the electoral college, people like Meryl Streep and the rest of the Hollywood elite would have a stranglehold on the rest of the country,” Lahren added. “You know, the football and MMA loving rest of the country between the two coasts that break their backs to put food on the table, pay the mortgage, and send their American-born children to college – those folks.”

Lahren appears to be of the belief that liberals don’t live in the flyover country. Boy is she in for a surprise.

Moreover, how does Hollywood expressing what a literal popular majority of the country believes equate to a stranglehold? If anything, the electoral college forces urban centers to bend to the will of rural America based on the uneven weighting of the system that rewards American citizens for living in less densely populated areas. The institution itself is a slave state vestige so it’s not surprising that Lahren loves it so much (as we’ve pointed out repeatedly that she’s blatantly and unapologetically racist).

But that’s why she uses dog whistle language when she’s trying to make a point unrelated to lecturing the African-American community about how she believes they should behave. By labeling what ‘real’ America looks like, she can keep her white nationalism intact while refraining from saying ‘white America’.

Thereafter, Lahren attacked Streep and Hollywood at large for deigning to try to understand the average American.

“First, she reminded us that Hollywood actors are just average folks. You know, average folks who wear millions in jewelry and designer gowns to walk down a red carpet for twenty minutes meanwhile pretending to care about the so-called income inequality and working class – lovely, ” she said.

This is a perfect example of the kind of tone-deaf, incompetent political commentary that makes Tomi Lahren more of a hack and less of a poignant pundit.

A person’s income has no bearing on their ability to offer empathy toward others’ struggles including income inequality. In fact, celebrities are the perfect group to shine a light on the blight as they have such large platforms and voices.

Moreover, Lahren is making this argument against Hollywood speaking out while being rich while supporting a rich reality television star who has stood on several red carpets with expensive outfits, jewelry, etc. with Melania. Trump claims to be able to understand the average citizen while doing all of these same things. And to top that off, he literally lives in a $100 Million golden penthouse.

That singular penthouse, by the way, is worth more than Meryl Streep’s entire net worth.

Thereafter Lahren attacked Streep for mentioning foreigners and Trump’s ongoing threats to target at-risk populations. While Lahren attempted to portray Trump’s stance as only being against undocumented immigrants with criminal records, the truth of the matter is much bleaker.

Trump’s own campaign and surrogates have brandied the idea of targeting Muslims at large. Trump is also poised to launch an attack on Dreamers – the group who voluntarily gave their information to the Obama administration as he told them they would be safe.

Lahren segued to Streep’s comments about violence arguing, “But then Meryl went on to talk about violence and disrespect. She told us violence incites violence. Now was she talking about the violence the DNC paid for at Trump rallies?”

This is a half truth we covered in detail before. Lahren loves citing DNC-funded violence but has never actually admitted she’s promoting a mostly bogus story. (Surprise!)

“Or the violence in the inner cities glorified by rap music?” Lahren added, getting in her requisite ‘inner cities’ dog whistle racism just under the wire.

Lahren’s grasp of factual reality took a sharp turn at this point in the screed. “Then Meryl went on to lecture us on the truth. Yeah, seriously. From the woman who yipped on stage at the Democratic National Convention at the excitement of electing perhaps the most dishonest lying sack of crap in the electoral history! Yeah.”

Actually, statistically, Donald Trump holds that honor – not that Lahren would ever admit to that. In fact, at one point toward the end of the election, Trump “averaged about one falsehood every three minutes and 15 seconds over nearly five hours of remarks” outpacing Clinton by miles.

And all of that is aside from Lahren’s inability to develop an adult vocabulary that doesn’t include insulting those she disagrees with without using playground-level personal insults.

But Lahren didn’t stop at calling Clinton a liar. She went on to push more of the debunked stories conservatives eat, breathe and survive on.

“Safeguarding the truth, Meryl? Was that the same truth – the 33,000 emails of truth – Hillary deleted or…yeah,” she said.

Fact check: Hillary Clinton did not personally delete 33,000 emails. We covered this frequently-cited Lahren lie previously as well. Since Lahren loves lying as much as the President Elect she supports, it’s worth repeating this portion of our previous reporting about this particular lie:

Hillary Clinton did not personally delete 33,000 emails after being subpoenaed. This is a straight up example of fake news. Clinton contracted a company called Platte River Networks (PRN) to handle her server and emails. (This is an important distinction because the members of that company did not work directly for Clinton.) Clinton gave PRN a directive to begin deleting personal emails older than a certain time frame well before the subpoena. When they realized – subsequent to the subpoena – they hadn’t carried out the work they had been paid to do, they are the ones who violated a federal directive free of her direction. When PRN received immunity for their testimony, the FBI realized she had nothing to do with the emails’ destruction outside of her order weeks prior as a normal course of business. In short, it was not an attempt to circumvent any legal order. The FBI report confirms all of this.

Despite a publicly available FBI report that could dispel her notions of a conspiracy to delete emails, Lahren would rather propagate false information because it sells to her audience.

After getting in one final mention of “snowflakes” – the current white supremacist pejorative for anyone who would dare question or fear Trump’s motives – Lahren asked why Trump would even care what Hollywood liberals would think of him.

It’ll probably be disconcerting for Lahren to learn that Trump desperately wants those Hollywood liberals’ attention and approval.

But that’s the thing about both Trump and Lahren: they lie to reassure themselves they’re in the right and have a mandate despite a majority of the country opposing their viewpoints.

Whether she’s lecturing the African-American community how they should behave or calling for the murder of Black Lives Matter activists, Lahren just doesn’t seem to get it. And that raw prejudice and white privilege isn’t restricted to lashing out at African-Americans; she treats almost every non-white, non-conservative person as an enemy to be defeated even going so far as to call for religious genocide against Muslims at one point.

We’d argue that Lahren should do more reading on her topics before offering such unresearched, illogical positions – but we know thanks to an interview that she has a “short attention span,” is “not a reader” and doesn’t “read long books.”

It doesn’t get any more stereotypical than that, does it?
