Only 6% of Scientists Identify Themselves as Republicans

David PakmanAccording to a new survey conducted by Pew Research, only 6% of scientists identify as Republican. The remaining portion identify as follows: 55% as Democrat & the remainder as Independent, non-political, or otherwise. On a recent edition of his web show, David Pakman tackled this survey and what it means for education and science that only 6% of scientists identify with the conservative mindset. In his analysis, Pakman says that because Democrats generally support the scientific conclusions (and are more willing to change pre-conceived ideals when presented with new and conflicting evidence), scientists are more likely to identify as liberals.
